You may be wondering what residents experience at an addiction recovery center. How does the programming help support recovery, and what will the journey be like for yourself or a loved one? Although specific programming varies from one recovery center to the next, the experience of residents at Lightway Addiction Recovery Wellness Center for women in Georgia and beyond is a helpful glimpse inside the world of long-term, residential recovery. Here is what you can expect.
No Two Recovery Journeys are Identical
Lightway Recovery recognizes that each person is uniquely created. Individual challenges, co-existing conditions, and traumas require a personalized approach. Recovery is a deeply personal process that involves recognizing, processing, and healing from what has happened to create new possibilities for the future. That’s why, after intake at Lightway Recovery, residents connect with a recovery coach to create a plan and map out goals for their time in the program.
At Lightway Recovery, the women’s residential program involves two levels of service provision. Keep reading to learn what residents experience in each level.
Level One: Healing
During the first level, the recommended duration is six months. During this time, residents experience a highly structured program with 24/7 staffing. All transportation and meals are provided, allowing total focus on a personalized recovery program. This period of intensive care is about establishing a stable foundation with little to no outside distractions. Within Level One, residents advance through progresive phases that result in increasing privileges.
Living in this structured, therapeutic environment, residents learn basic recovery skills while receiving trauma-informed care through individual coaching and group support. Additionally, basic life skills—sometimes lost to years of unhealthy lifestyles—are taught or refreshed.
Once a resident graduates from phase one, they receive priority admittance to Lightway Recovery’s transitional level.
Level Two: Freedom
In this level, residents transition into more independence but maintain their connection to the residential community and continue to live on-site with progressive coaching, regular screenings for accountability, and supportive monitoring. The focus of this phase is preparation for the next steps in a resident’s life. The recommended duration of this level is also six months.
Some residents in Level Two may work at Lightway Recovery or with community partner employers. Others may become full-time students at nearby trade schools and colleges. Whatever their goals may be, residents are supported in the transition back to life commitments, whether work, school, or family.
